Multi-media filters successfully and consistently remove suspended solids from water. During this filtration process, water flows through layers of media such as anthracite, quartz (sand) and garnet in a vessel. These layers are arranged in order of decreasing porosity, which allows larger particles to be trapped in the higher porosity layers while the smaller particles are caught in the lower porosity media. These types of filters are effective in removing particles as small as 2 microns. Pretreatment with polymers and coagulants can enhance performance by agglomeration (bringing smaller particles together to form larger particles).
WPT's multi-media systems offer the design flexibility for any flow rate and for using both continuous regeneration and intermittent regeneration operating methods. Eliminate extensive filter bed preconditioning and lengthy start-up periods (with non-compliant water quality) with this proven technology.
WPT also offers air scour systems for use with media filtration systems. A blower is used to introduce low-pressure, high-volume air approximately one foot below the top of the media bed to loosen the particulate and break up any surface crusting caused by feed water containing:
- High TSS (Total Suspended Solids) such as silt, decaying plant and animal matter, industrial wastes, and sewage
- Injected coagulants
WPT can provide these filters in vertical, horizontal or gravity configurations and offer these time and cost savings:
- Reduction of installation and space utilization costs through pre-assembled vessels and face piping mounted on WPT's sturdy, space-saving SUPERSKID™ design.
- Reduction of set-up time and costs because the SUPERSKID™ design reduces on-site work.
- Reduction of onsite system monitoring costs through WPT's automated control system.
Below illustrates a typical WPT multi-media system utilizing the
SUPERSKID™ design.
WPT mounts the preassembled vessels and pipes on a sturdy, tube-steel skid system that avoids open-channel deterioration and minimizes equipment footprint, assembly cost, and start-up time.
WPT Air Mix Blower System
WPT offers an air scour system for use with media filtration systems. The blower introduces low-pressure, high-volume air approximately one foot below the top of the media bed to loosen the particulate and break up any surface crusting caused by feed water containing:
- High TSS (Total Suspended Solids) such as silt, decaying plant and animal matter, industrial wastes, and sewage
- Injected coagulants
By adding air mix system to a media filtration system, users can reduce the amount of backwash required to reestablish media filter performance, thus increasing the efficiency of the media filtration system.
A Custom Solution for an Off-the-Shelf Price
WPT matches a combination of optimum filtration media with a sophisticated, automated monitoring system to develop the best solution for suspended removal. The influent stream passes through The filtered water that passes through the media can either be used as a direct feed to a distribution system or stored in a reservoir.
